About me and my practice

I work as a Humanistic and Integrative therapist and am passionate about supporting women through the stresses and anxieties associated with life's transitions.
Whilst this is unique to every woman it can often be the result of many common experiences. This can include the process of becoming independent from parents,to the impact of having children or being childless. It could be the experience of being single or feeling stuck in a relationship and or dealing with betrayal. It can be the impact of the menopause through to caring for aging parents.
I work in a culturally sensitive way with clients from a variety of backgrounds often very different to my own. I recognise and respect this difference acknowledging we all have our unique path.
My priority is to create a genuine, warm and non-judgmental environment to build trust as I believe that your experience of acceptance within a therapeutic relationship with me will stimulate healing and growth for you.

I work to connect you to your inner strength and support you to develop an awareness, a clearer understanding of yourself for yourself and to improve your relationships.

I take a client-centred, holistic and relationally focussed approach. I aim to connect you to your inner strength, and intuition, to reach your potential.
I work exploratively and collaboratively with you to make sense of what emerges, drawing into your awareness what was previously hidden to understand your current issues.

I have a special interest in the workings of family cultural expectations and how this contributes to your story. I am also experienced in the dynamics of inter-racial and inter-cultural relationships.

As an integrative therapist I tailor my approach to suit your individual needs, drawing upon humanistic modalities such person centred, gestalt and transactional analysis.
I work with individuals and couples.

Experience

I have been working with women from a range of ethnicities, cultures and social backgrounds for over two years and am currently an associate psychotherapist with the Nottingham Counselling Service, a registered charity. I have also had experience working with young adults in a further education college and now work in private practice in Nottingham.

I specialise in working with women who suffer from depression, anxiety, and feelings of isolation due to relational trauma, emotional neglect and feelings of shame. I have worked with a wide range of issues which include but are not limited to:
Anxiety, depression, relationship problems, self-harm, bereavement, anger, eating disorders, sexual abuse, childhood trauma, issues of identity, work related issues, panic attacks and bullying/harassment.

I am a registered member of the BACP and work within their ethical framework and undergo regular supervision.

Qualifications

I have a BSc Hons in Counselling and Psychotherapy gained from The Sherwood Psychotherapy Institute (SPTI)
I am registered with the BACP and adhere to their ethical framework.
I continually undertake professional development attending various workshops to enhance my practice.

Additional Information

I believe our feelings and behaviour are responses to our environment. When our environment is not attuned to our needs, we can withdraw into ourselves, suppress, or disconnect from our feelings. Therapy with me can provide the opportunity to connect with these responses and feelings to discover and explore your inner power, strength, and intuition to face and overcome your lived reality.
We all have the ability to reach our full potential and experiencing a therapeutic relationship with me, adorned with acceptance, warmth and understanding can bring about increased self-awareness, greater insight which can impact your relationship with yourself and with others and the potential for a transformative process.

Initial Consultation

Finding someone you connect with and feel you can trust to unfold your story to is very important. You may be curious about working with me, or wish to clarify and ask any questions that you understandably may have. If this is the case a free, confidential phone or video call (around 15 minutes) would be the first step.
The next step would be to book our first session together.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to assess if we can connect and work together and understand your needs and aims and how I can support you. I will gather information about your history and reasons that bring you to therapy and working together we can set out expectations and goals.
